Soleil Moon Frye in Baby Couture’s Summer Issue

July 11th, 2008

Soleil5.jpg
Poet: Apron loop terry dress by Baby Nay (babynay.com).

The gorgeous and talented actress, writer and director Soleil Moon Frye as a mother is a far cry from the real parents of Punky Brewster, the main character whom she played in the immensely successful sitcom that lasted four seasons in the ‘80s, about a child who was abandoned by her mom and dad in a shopping center in Chicago and was eventually adopted by a widower named Henry. This show made Soleil a household name to this day. She also recently made a touching, award-winning documentary on her father’s battle with Alzheimer’s Disease called “Sonny Boy,” which has gathered acclaim among different award-giving bodies. The title was based from her dad’s nickname, “Sonny,” which is what he was called as a boxer. She’ll be seen on the big screen again soon, on a movie with Janeane Garofalo and Rebecca Gayheart titled, “For Better Or For Worse,” and is excited about this new project. Although she is always a hands-on mom to two beautiful girls first, Soleil is also a proud entrepreneur who co-owns an eco-friendly boutique located in Los Angeles called, “The Little Seed.” Boasting of a wide array of environmentally-conscious wares, the store is a one-stop, inviting shopping sanctuary for parents looking for safe products for their children—complete from the store’s recycled bags, to its no V.O.C. paint on the walls. With a toddler and infant now in tow, Soleil welcomed us into her lovely Moroccan-inspired abode—chronicling both her pre- and post- second pregnancy. Now fine-tuning her parenting skills to the beat of a toddler and an infant, she also filled us in on how to keep marriages intact, on her babies’ distinctive names, learning the ropes of retailing, and on growing up on a Hollywood set, Punky-style.

Handling a toddler and an infant
When Poet was born, I never knew that the human spirit could love in such a way as you love your children. I just kept thinking about how this love was so unique and beautiful, and when Jagger was born, my heart melted and tears fell from my eyes once again. To think that our hearts continue to love and grow so much is mind-blowing. The other day, I was sitting in the tub with both girls and Poet was washing Jagger with a washcloth, and I was thinking to myself that these are truly the moments to look back on at the end of my life. There are still so many things that I need to learn, but I am trying to just be in the moment. A very close friend of our family’s once said that, “You always see someone’s birth and death with a dash in the middle, and that life is really about how we live and love in between, and what we do with our dash.

Lookback–Martin Sheen in Baby Couture

July 9th, 2008

MartinSheen_BabyCouture1.jpg
We photographed one of my favorite people, Martin Sheen, for one of Baby Couture’s covers in 2007. Martin is part-owner of the children’s clothing line, Jackson Clay, together with Paula Speert (mother of Charlie Sheen’s firstborn daughter). My baby girl Maxine is just a few months old here (wearing Agatha Ruiz De La Prada) and this was one of the easiest shoots we’ve had because Martin is a really nice, laidback guy. Please excuse the chubby cheeks (mine, not my daughter’s).

Mini Beckham in Ben Sherman

June 22nd, 2008

beckham11.jpg
We were sent this photo from justjared.com featuring Cruz Beckham clad in one of our favorite lines for boys, Ben Sherman (bensherman.com). Yes, this is the same adorable 3-year old boy who was breakdancing in one of the Spice Girls’ recent performances. He’s also working those red shorts, and is quite the headturner, just like his trendsetting parents.

Local Celebrities

June 19th, 2008

LC_pitt.jpg
We adore this children’s line from Local Celebrity called “Little Celebrity (As Seen On Cool Kids)” because they carry simple slogans like “Respect” (seen here on Pax Jolie-Pitt) to bad-ass band tees like “Black Sabbath” (on Zahara). We’re just waiting for the line to send the Brangelina brood a “Who’s Your Daddy?” tee, because it’s so cool what their answer would be to that (localcelebrity.com).
